Also known as N-butyl alcohol, Butanol is a clear, colorless liquid with an alcohol-like odor. While it only has limited miscibility in water,n-Butanol is easily soluble in regular solvents such as ethers, alcohol, glycols and hydrocarbons. It is commonly used as a solvent for paints, lacquers & varnishes, natural & synthetic resins, gums, vegetable oils, and dyes & alkaloids. It can be used as an intermediate in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals & chemicals. Additionally, it is employed in industries producing artificial leather, textiles, safety glass, rubber cement, raincoats, photographic films & perfumes.
